Commissions Achieve Savings Through Sharing Space

The Office of the Children’s Commissioner and the Families Commission are now sharing offices.

The two commissions will continue to act separately as they are governed by separate Acts and have different, though complementary, roles.

As Crown entities, both Commissions were asked to conduct a review of their budgets. Being similar organisations, this review included an investigation of what efficiencies could be gained, and improvements to effectiveness made, by a greater degree of cooperation and sharing of services. One of the savings identified was for the Commissions to share premises.

“Co-location of the Auckland offices took place earlier this year and has been working well with the two organisations supporting each other in a myriad of ways. We anticipate that further cost efficiencies will be found by sharing resources in Wellington,” says Paul Curry, Chief Executive of the Families Commission.

“In these challenging times, it is important that both commissions find savings while continuing to advocate for the separate interests of children and families. There will also be opportunities to collaborate in work where there are common interests,” says Chief Families Commissioner Dr Jan Pryor.

The physical address for both Commissions is Level 6, Public Trust Building, 117-125 Lambton Quay, Wellington.
