Submission on the Public Consultation Document A Focus on Victims of Crime: A Review of Victims’ Rights

The submission supports proposals that have the potential to improve the experiences of victims with the criminal justice system significantly.

Our comments were restricted to proposals that are particularly relevant to family and whānau, rather than individual victims. These include supporting the creation of a Centre for Victims, independent of the Ministry of Justice. We also support the adoption of codes of practice for all criminal justice agencies dealing with victims, and the establishment of a Victims Complaints Officer attached to the Office of the Ombudsmen.
