How do we work together to grow great communities?
The Victory Village Forum, held 27-29 July 2011, was jointly organised by the Families Commission, Victory Village and Inspiring Communities and was the first family-centred, community-led development forum of its kind to happen in New Zealand.
The brought together a group of innovative school and community leaders and practitioners, representatives from local government, central government, support agencies, service providers, philanthropic organisations and NGOs. Using the striking changes made by the community at Victory Village as a starting point, the Forum celebrated and shared information about community-led, family-centred development. It was a unique chance for participants to learn about;
- Community development
- Developing strong interagency relationships
- Planning for success and tangible progress
- Cutting edge examples of community-led development across New Zealand
- Funding sustainability.
Participants were able to experience Victory Village first-hand - and learn about other communities with family-centred, community-led initiatives that are thoughtfully and energetically building on the strengths of their communities to achieve tangible changes.
Victory Village Forum - An overview describes what happened at the forum, and the findings that emerged from it. It outlines the purposes and structure of the forum, and then follows the three-day structure of the forum itself, identifying its key themes and ideas. Finally, it identifies some possible future work and new directions.
The Families Commission has worked closely with Victory Village for a number of years and we are strong champions of the "Victory approach", which puts families at the centre of its thinking to create positive results.
